Gardener Bloggers' Bloom Day

Thank you to Carole at May Dreams Gardens for being our gracious host for July's Gardener Bloggers' Bloom Day July 2013!  Check out the other blogger's blooming gardens at her blog.

Happy Gardener Bloggers' Bloom Day July 2013 y'all!

Here's what blooming in our South Florida garden this July....
Lobster claw heliconia
Heliconia caribaea x bihai 'jacquinii'
Purple Tahitian cap (holmskioldia taitensis)
Blc. Hawaiian Passion 'Carmela'...sweet smelling!
It is mounted up in my black ironwood tree
Aechmea 'maginali' bromeliad bloom
Yes, both of these flowers are the same orchid,
hence the nameCtna. Florida Sunset.
The newly opened flowers are a super saturated
hot pink which fades to pale blushing pinkish yellow.
Purple ground orchid
'Black-and-Blue' salvia which has spread everywhere
My pink dragon fruit cactus's first bloom
Ok, so this one technically isn't a bloom BUT it's loaded with
my favorite chili pepper called Thai-Thai chili.
Pseuderanthemum carruthersii var. atropurpureum
My purple dendrobium never fails to bloom
The last blooms on my 'Double Delight' grandiflora rose
A super intense smelling rose!
Lc. Miva Royal Chocolate 'delish' orchid in
our black ironwood tree
Blc. Laura Bush 'Carmela' orchid mounted in
our black ironwood tree
Variegated seashell ginger
My newly acquired variegated jatropha...I couldn't pass it up! ;)
Thanks for stopping by to check out a little bit of what is blooming in our Pompano Beach garden.
What's blooming in yours?

Happy Gardening and Many Best Wishes,

  1. Oh my gosh, you really have some wonderful bloomers, and some I've never heard of or seen before. Your orchids are beautiful.

I really love Purple Tahitian cap and the next one that intrigued me was Pseuderanthemum carruthersii var. atropurpureum. Where did you find these?

    1. Hi Lorraine, hope you are staying dry today! Thank you for the compliments...I used to have such an extensive & gorgeous orchid collection though over the past few years it has dwindled to a small mish-mosh collection, hee hee. They seem to do so much better in the trees than in the pots.

I wish I could remember where I bought the pseuderanthemum because I would buy a few more since it's really hard to find. Luckily I found that it propagates quite easily. I will gladly give you some cuttings if you would like. The Tahitian cap is becoming more popular as of late & can be found at some nurseries like Living Color in Davie that have more unique plants. There is also a red version called holmskioldia sanguinea - Chinese or Mandarin hat. In the winter both the purple and red varieties end up looking a little bare so they look nice mixed in with other border type plants.
Hope you have a great week!

      Best wishes,

    1. Thank you so much Helen and YES please drop me a line when you are traveling to SoFlo! Would love to get together and show you the town up! Hope all is going well with the house renovation. It really looks amazing! I was telling one my Trini friend's about it and it brought back memories for him at how they used to fix up their families homes and the good times they had growing up there. Wishing you a most marvelous week!

      Best wishes,
      Sheri
